53 Hemford Crescent - DON MILLS

In June 2013, this 4+2 bedroom, 4 bedroom house was featured as The Globe and Mail Home of the Week.

So, yeah, it's been listed for a while.

This is what it used to look like...

Check out that couch!  That is a Craigslist dream.

And here is a picture showing the 2 massive spruce trees that the new house was built around giving it the name '2 Spruce House'...

I don't think the new house itself will be for everyone.  But even if it isn't your thing, you can't deny it is a huge improvement. I am not sure I am into everything going on here, but there is just something about it.

Even though the colours are very neutral, it has a warm and bright feeling.  Perhaps it is all the windows.

Speaking of the windows, considering there is a bike path basically in the back yard, this could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you feel about people biking and looking into your living room.

There is also something about that living room/dining room/kitchen that reminds be a lot of the Harry B. Kohl designed Barrie house at 2000 Strathallan Woods Place (wonder if that place ever sold).

Though a lot of it isn't my style, the description by the first listing agent is pretty close...

'It’s like Frank Lloyd Wright meets the Muskokas'

Well, at least it makes more sense than 'Muskoka meets Rome in the City'!

So, if that's your thing, this is a great house.

But if this is such a good house, why is it still on the market?

Well, for one, the first listing price was $3,288,880!

It's in a neighbourhood that is full of houses like the one across the street at 42 Hemford Crescent (that probably isn't there any more)...

Or these....

That are much smaller, if the are still there.

But this is in neighbourhood that is seeing significant change.

So, will the most recent price of $2,599,000 make a difference?

I am not sure it will go that high...but $2,349,000?

Definitely.
