mishMASH - Shelter Island - WEST VANCOUVER

If you read this summer's Globe and Mail article about the private island called Preston Island at the mouth of Howe Sound between West Vancouver and the Sunshine coast...

And thought to yourself that you wanted your own private island only 30 minutes by boat to downtown Vancouver...

And only 4 minutes to Gibson where you can catch a ferry to Vancouver...

Or go for lunch at Molly's Reach...

A restaurant made famous by the Beachcombers...

Now is your chance.

This is a 3.5 acre island with a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom 'Old Timer' building on the north west side of Keats Island.  It doesn't exactly have the views that Preston Island does considering that it is blocked by Keats Island and Preston Island is on the south side of Keats Island...

But it is still a rare private island that is for sale close to Vancouver.

Preston Island is owned by Vancouver based designer Martha Sturdyand I mentioned it in June 2012 in the post for the West Vancouver house at 6261 Taylor Drive...

It was featured in the June 2012 issue of Canadian House and Home...

And in the February 2011 issue of Architectural Digest...

And because it is owned by a designer, it's done.

This place on Shelter Island, however, is a little rough around the edges...

But it is kind of charming.

It kind of reminds me of the Georgian Bay cottage at 412 2650 Island that I loved...

The view is not of the open water though.  Assuming this place is not going to stay, I wonder if a new place could be built here instead...

But since this is an island, construction of a new place would probably be a total nightmare.

And the asking price for the island alone is $3,300,000.

So, the person that buys this is going to have to really, really want it.

But it could be amazing....just a lotof work.
