718R Ossington Avenue - BLOORCOURT VILLAGE, TORONTO
When I saw the listing for this 0 bedroom, 0 bathroom, 0 parking spot laneway building on a 41.5 x 30 foot lot at 718R Ossington Avenue just south of Bloor in Bloorcourt Village in Toronto…
I thought it looked intersting.
Then I saw the interior shots and it showed a bunch of equipment in a studio which was king of boring.
But when I saw the photos of the upstairs and I saw this…
Clearly I had to Google it. And when I did, I came across a video taken in this space on a Kickstarter page that was trying to raise some money to buy a generator to power a bunch of games that you would find in an arcade like Skee Ball…
But with fire…
It was an attraction at the 2013 Burning Man festival. The creation of Charcade was led by Site 3 CoLaboratory, the organization that owns this space. According to their site, they are ‘a space that promotes a four step cycle of create, display, teach and inspire’ and require a monthly membership to use the space and equipment.
I guess Chancade was such a success, they created Charnival a couple of years later. This audio explains some of the new games they were adding.
And while I have never had any interest in going to Burning Man, those pyro bumper cars sound pretty amazing.
Unfortunately, I am not sure what has come of Site 3 or why they are selling the space but the last updates to the site seem to be from September. Hopefully they are just moving.
But if you need some studio space or want to convert this to a laneway house…
The asking price is $999,000.
FYI, looks like Burning Man is postponed until 2022 but in the meantime, you can check out some photos here.
