79 Markham Street - TRINITY-BELLWOODS
In March, I posted the listing for
this house on a 25 x 67.25 foot lot at 79 Markham Street in Trinity-Bellwoods.
It was the house that was just a lot and a tarp...
And the asking price was $759,900.
Which I thought was going to be tough because, as I pointed out, this house had quite a history.
In September 2013, there was a fire that caused $100,000 worth of damage only 2 days after the owner bought it for $550,000.
Then in December 2014, two months after a Committee of Adjustment report for a 3 storey house was approved, according to this Toronto Star article...
Workers renovating a Markham St. home arrived Monday morning to find two large plastic buckets — one on the main floor, one upstairs — each containing a chemical liquid and a submerged barbecue-like element connected to a timer and plugged into a wall, according to Toronto Fire Services.
And THEN....
In January 2015...
There was an explosion and ANOTHER fire.
Here is the owner talking to a fire fighter the following morning ...
Here is the Crime Stoppers video asking for help trying to solve these arsons...
I am not sure if they ever solved this case...
But since then, a house has been built on the lot and it is for sale.
It is a 3+3(?) bedroom, 4 bathroom house with no parking on a 25 x 67.25 foot lot.
The asking price is $1,188,000.
So, this house that has a reno that reminds me of the house at 210 Major Street...
With basically no backyard...
And a history of arson attempts....
1.2 million?
Ummm....
