1575 Dundas Street West - LITTLE PORTUGAL
This is a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house on a 15.2 x 159.90 foot lot at 1575 Dundas Street West in Little Portugal.
It is a commercial space that was converted in 2012 by architect Tamira Sawatsky and her wife, Elle Flanders, co-owners of Public Studio, a collaborative art and architecture practice.
Here is a photo of them standing in front of their house when it was featured in Dwell magazine and was the Globe and Mail Home of the Week...
As they mentioned in that article, they wanted a commercial building where they could live and work. At the front is what looks like a dining table but is their office (I guess it could be used as a dining table too), and in the back is an amazing living room, the space that made the space 'jell'.
I normally don't love tiled floors in a living space but there is radiant heat and the slate just looks really good with the furniture. And speaking of furniture, I love these couches...
According to the article, they were a wedding present from Flanders mother and are Voyage Immobile sofas with Farniente collection upholstery by Roche Dubois.
There are a lot of other amazing pieces throughout the house and the Dwell article has a pretty good list of where everything is from if you are curious.
As for the house itself, it has a green roof, rain barrels, LED lighting throughout, a steam room, a kitchen on the first floor and the third floor (the house is listed as a duplex but I am not sure where the second entrance is), and a large backyard.
In 2013, when it was featured in the Globe and Mail and Dwell, it was for sale for $1,550,000.
It is now for sale again with all the same furniture. I don't know if it just never sold or if Sawatsky and Flanders decided not to move, but the new asking price is...
$1,798,000.
I don't think this will sit for long.
